Research with us

SHIFT is not a closed group. The papers on this site came out of engineers, academics and students working together on questions none of them could answer alone. If you want to take one of those questions further — or pay for someone to — here is how.

Ways in 4 tracks
Track 01

Co-author a paper

For researchers and practitioners

Join a study in progress, or bring one of your own into the group.

  • Co-design a study with the Uniandes, Tres Astronautas and Blend 360 teams
  • Shared authorship on the resulting publication
  • Access to the instruments and survey designs behind our existing papers
  • Venues we already publish at: ICSME, VISSOFT, ASE workshops
Track 02

Thesis & internships

For students

Take on a scoped research question as a thesis, capstone or internship project.

  • Open questions sized for a masters thesis or final-year project
  • Supervision alongside your own university advisor
  • Real engineering teams to study rather than a toy setting
  • Publication as a co-author where the work supports it
Track 03

Host a study

For engineering organisations

Let us study how your teams actually work with AI, and get the findings back.

  • Surveys, interviews or instrumented case studies with your engineers
  • A written report on your own teams, before anything is published
  • Your organisation anonymised in the paper unless you prefer otherwise
  • This is how the Spec-Graph industry case was done
Track 04

Fund the work

For sponsors and funders

Underwrite a study, a student, or the Forum itself.

  • Fund a specific research question end to end
  • Sponsor a thesis student or research assistant
  • Support the next SHIFT Forum
  • Funding is acknowledged in the resulting publications
How we work Ground rules

Open by default

Findings are published. We write for peer-reviewed venues, and preprints go up here as soon as we can share them.

Your data stays yours

Study agreements are written before any data is collected. Organisations are anonymised in publications unless you ask to be named.

Credit where it is due

Contribution decides authorship, not seniority or who paid. Funders are acknowledged, not listed as authors.

Across three organisations

SHIFT research runs between Universidad de los Andes, Tres Astronautas and Blend 360, with collaborators elsewhere.

Open questions Where help is needed
Cognition

How does cognitive maturity in AI-assisted work develop over time, and can it be taught rather than only measured?

Specification

What makes a specification legible to an agent, and how do spec-graphs behave as they grow past a single organisation?

Visualization

What should developers actually see when the code is generated rather than written?

Practice

Which of the manifesto’s principles survive contact with delivery pressure, and which quietly get dropped first?

Tell us what you have in mind

One message is enough to start. We read everything and reply to anything concrete — expect a few days rather than a few minutes.

We only use this to reply. Nothing is published, shared or added to a mailing list. Prefer email? hello@shiftmanifesto.com
